Tented Camps & Lodges in Masai Mara

Despite its distant location, the Masai Mara boasts some amazing hotels, particularly tented camps and lodges, which have been created and established over decades in what are essentially Africa’s wilds.
Some of these opulent Tented Camps and Safari Lodges have won prestigious international awards.
This article is a basic summary of some of Masai Mara’s best luxury, mid-range, and budget lodging options.

Luxury Tented Camps & Lodges in Masai Mara

Some of Africa’s most opulent safari camps may be found in the Masai Mara.
These camps are often small, boutique-style establishments that are designed to blend in with their surroundings and operate in accordance with the strictest environmental guidelines.
The fundamental concept is to provide luxury while remaining as near to nature as possible, emulating the classic safari experience of decades past, when only a canvas tent separated one from the elements and wild animals.

Masai Mara features various camps and lodges that are less expensive than the more elite properties while still being located within the reserve and providing tourists with a gratifying experience.
These are what we call Upper Mid-Range properties.
Many of these camps have lodge-like characteristics and are larger than small exclusive or mobile campers, with swimming pools, vast common spaces, well-stocked gift stores, and even purpose-built spas.

Budget Camps

Budget Camps in the Masai Mara are a more recent addition, designed to appeal to budget-conscious travelers.
Almost all inexpensive hotels are outside the Masai Mara Reserve’s main perimeter.
Game drives would continue to take place within the main reserve, requiring each game drive to enter and exit the park.

Safari Lodges

Lodges in the Masai Mara are designed to be closer to hotels while yet maintaining the feel, style, and design of a resort constructed in and created to enhance the pleasures of being in the bush.
A well-designed lodge will have some of the same characteristics of a camp, such as significant use of local materials and a design that merges the structure into the surroundings.
Lodges typically contain more rooms and larger common areas, as well as a swimming pool.
The rooms are more hotel-like in terms of style and comfort, with a safari atmosphere to match the surroundings.
